Timed to the tree, not the calendar

Most North Mississippi shade trees are best pruned in the dormant season: late winter, before spring growth. Oaks in particular should not receive routine pruning during the warm months, when the beetles that spread oak wilt are active. Details and sources are on the FAQ page. Emergency limb work is the exception: hazards are handled when they appear, in any season.
